A little bit of background : I started having acne last summer (:@)..lol. As of now i have horrible acne scars on my face. I use a foundation (from Cover Fx) to hide them, but the thing is i'm sick of having to cover my face all the time. SOOO i started looking online for ';procedures';. The two that looked that they might actually help are the Fraxel laser and Microdermabrasion. The thing is all the spa/skin clinics all advertise such oh so AHmazing outcomes, but i'm not so sure. So my questions are:
1) Which of the two procedure is best for clearing scars?
2) What kind of results should i expect?
3) What are the side effects?
Thanks for your help!Acne scars.?
Hi, i do Microdermabrasion as a professional. The thing you have to realize about that stuff is...the results come with time. Thats why a lot of salons and spas offer a package. The good thing with microderm is that you can tell the esthetician to crank it up as much as you can stand it. you can also do chemical peels. if there really that bad, i would suggest going for a consultation at a med spa. because there going to be able to do everything we can do at spas...plus lasers and electrotherapy and stuff.
If you want to try something at home, Eminence Organics has a great pear and poppy seed microdermabrasion polisher. i love the stuff. the thing with this stuff is that the more pressure you scrub with, the more results youl get. and even better, you really really get what you pay for, you only need such a small amount because you dilute it with water, tea, or juice. so the jar lasts for about a year!
Good luck!Acne scars.?
I dont have much personal experience with either, but my sister started getting Microdermabrasion procedures done last year to help deal with her acne scarring. Aside from redness for a couple days, I didn't notice many side affects. After time (and i mean atleast 4 treatments, it wont happen overnight) her skin looked a lot better and she was really happy with the results. I think Microdermabrasion is cheaper...don't quote me on that though. After you get professional treatment done for a few weeks you can maintain it for less cash with a great at home microdermabrasion kit from neutrogena.
Lemmegue, before you go that far, have you gotten a good skin care regimen going? How much water do you drink? Do you take a good vitamin/mineral supplement and eat well? I agree that you should not have to cover up and I chose aularale.com/7002. The skin care is fantastic! There's also a vitamin c serum for drying up acne and a fade gel to get the skin's natural tone back.
I have acne still, and am old enough to have wrinkles. The scarring really looks bad in wrinkles! I've had severe chemical peels, and it really is the only thing that will get enough skin off to show any reduction. I've done micro dermabrasion for a long time, and cannot say that there is any real change. Since the scars go deep into the dermis, the correction will need to go just as deep. Anything done in a salon or spa will be temporary at best.
I thought Fraxel laser would be the best thing, since the chemical peels are very painful, but I have had several doctors tell me it isn't. The peel will cost about $300-400, and the Fraxel lazer is at least $1,200 per treatment, and you will need several lazers. Either peel will leave you looking rough for about 3-4 weeks, so plan it for some down time when you won't have a big social event coming up.
The next best thing is to have your face sanded. You will get numbing injections, and the doctor actually puts a sander on your face and takes off three layers or so. Your skin has 7 layers, but you never want to remove more than 3 at a time. You have to remove that much to have any effect anyway. This is usually done when you have another procedure, such as a nose job, as they don't like to have you awake while they do it.
A few words of caution.. Be very careful who your doctor is. Ask how many times he has done this procedure. Ask if you could speak with some one who has had it done, or see their photos before and after. You want someone with lots of experience, and a very good staff.. When I had a peel done over 20 yrs. ago, it was much too strong for my type of skin (blond and fair), and I felt like my face was being devoured by fire ants. The doc gave me a compressed air wand to cool me, but booted me out of there complaining I took too much time. I finally made it home (I could hardly see to drive the tears were flowing so) and kept an ice pack on my face for the rest of the day. The strength is not as much now days, and they have better products and methods, but make sure the doc is well qualified. I had a doc who was experimenting on me. And keep out of the sun! Also, is your acne under control? Get a ZENO on ebay to zap them with . It's a heating tip, that cooks the infection out of your zit.
